The COVID-19 pandemic continues to demand our attention. It places a magnifying glass at our societies’ achievements and clarifies what works and does not work. It stimulated rapid responses from the scientific community for contributing to the acceleration of transnational research. It showcases, yet again and to a global scale, that disease does not know any boarders. Michaela Th. Mayrhofer, BBMRI-ERIC’s Head of ELSI Services & Research, will give a presentation that puts the focus on biobanking during pandemic times. Firstly, it sets the scene with some examples from within the Pan-European Research Infrastructure BBMRI-ERIC and its global partners. Secondly, it will draw conclusions as regards to the practice of biobanking, data and sample quality, findability of ressources and challenges for governance and the ethical, legal and societal implications.
