The overarching theme for the 2017 Gene Forum will be Real World Evidence – Path to Precision Medicine, with a focus on genomics, lifestyle and environment.
Speakers will discuss a wide range of topics including personal complete DNA sequence data and potentials in medical genomics applications, functional genomics as a path towards precision medicine, the role of gut microbiome in health and disease from early childhood to late life, the promise of customer purchase records as a measure of lifestyle and environment, genetic breakthroughs in understanding normal cognitive function and ageing.
This year, there will be another special session on CRISPR-Cas9 technology, a breakthrough “gene editing”-tool which promises a cure for rare diseases, novel drug discoveries and fast interpretation of genomic variation.
The conference will also feature an exhibition aimed at biotechnology-related companies. It will take place in Tartu, the second biggest city of Estonia, rich in academic and historical traditions.
