BBMRI-ERIC and ELIXIR announce strategic collaboration
BBMRI-ERIC, the European research infrastructure for biobanking and biomolecular resources, and ELIXIR, the European life science data infrastructure, have announced a strategic collaboration with the signing of a joint statement.
The organisations share a commitment to bridging the gap between fundamental and healthcare research through pan-European collaboration. BBMRI-ERIC and ELIXIR will work together to exchange knowledge, identify joint priority areas on the national level, support synergies in European Commission projects and scientific collaborations, align on research data management standards and pursue joint training activities.
Niklas Blomberg, ELIXIR Director, said:
“I am delighted to be extending our relationship with BBMRI-ERIC by entering this strategic collaboration. We look forward to working with the BBMRI-ERIC community to make biobank data available for novel science in the European data infrastructure. ELIXIR will benefit from access to BBMRI-ERIC’s expertise, particularly in areas of ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) and data quality.”
Prof. Jens K. Habermann, BBMRI-ERIC Director General, said:
“I am excited to see our collaboration with the ELIXIR community intensifying. This agreement solidifies the growing collaboration between BBMRI-ERIC and ELIXIR. It is based on cooperatively prioritising and harmonising approaches to research data and biobanking for harnessing powerful advancements in personalised medicine.”

BBMRI-ERIC is the European Research Infrastructure for Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources in Health and Life Sciences, legally established under EU law as ERIC, funded by 23 Member and Observer countries plus one international organisation, with headquarters in Graz, Austria.
