Wroclaw Medical University Biobank (WMU Biobank), one of the leading BBMRI.pl biobanks, responsible for implementation of common QMS solutions in the Polish Biobanking Network, completed the accreditation assessment process ISO 20387:2018 Biotechnology – Biobanking – General requirements for biobanking (PN-EN ISO 20387:2021- 01 Biotechnologia – Biobankowanie – Ogólne wymagania dotyczące biobankowania) in March 2022.
The accreditation process started in 2021 and was performed by Polish Centre for Accreditation as the first accreditation programme in Europe. WMU Biobank is currently expecting the final audit report. During the audit, just one nonconformity was identified and a Corrective Action Plan has already been proposed by WMU Biobank and accepted by Polish Centre for Accreditation.
WMU Biobank is the first entity in the world, where the scope of accreditation includes biobanking of human biological material and associated data regarding peripheral blood, secretions and excreta (urine, feces, saliva, nasal swabs, human milk, tissues) and cerebro-spinal fluid. The accreditation provides scientific partners with a guarantee that the entire life cycle of the biosamples and the associated data complies with the highest quality and safety standards, which can only be secured by ISO 20387:2018 accreditation.
