Who we are
BBMRI-ERIC is a European research infrastructure for biobanking and biomolecular resources. We bring together all the main players from the biobanking field – researchers, biobankers, industry, and patients – to boost biomedical research. To that end, we offer quality management services, support with ethical, legal and societal issues, and a number of online tools and software solutions. Ultimately, our goal is to make new treatments possible and enable precision medicine to the fullest.
BBMRI‐ERIC is an inclusive, equal‐opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation. Further information on the aims, mission, governance, and statutes of BBMRI‐ERIC can be found at www.bbmri‐eric.eu.
Through our ELSI service, we support the biobanking community by providing services and tools that promote regulatory compliance and best practice, as well as by influencing European policy. Operating the basis of the BBMRI-ERIC federated model, we work in partnership with a network of ethical and legal experts from academia and practice across Europe, coming from our 21 Member and Observer Countries. Our ELSI experts are at the core of any service we provide and any activities we undertake in our wide international and highly interdisciplinary network.
Key Responsibilities
We seek a Legal Officer to complement our ELSI team in order to improve our services and research activities for the biobanking and life sciences community. The expert will dedicate part of his/her time to the ELSI Services & Research tasks, especially in relation to data protection and data transfer. He/she will contribute to the development of practical guidance documents, assessments, glossaries, DPIAs and code of conduct. He/she will contribute to activities and tasks that may be both part of BBMRI-ERIC’s core services as well as selected EU funded projects. The expert will focus in his/her work on EU-Canada relations, GDPR compliance, assessment of national guidelines for transnational transfer of data, implications of genome medicine and AI in health research, and the European Health Data Space. These activities are essential to accelerate activities surrounding the Code of Conduct for Health Research and ultimately ensuring its public consultation.
Requirements
The Legal Officer is expected to have a background in legal and compliance aspects in the context of biomedical research, especially biobanks. Previous experience in collaborative, international research projects, private and/or public research organizations is an advantage. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with colleagues and stakeholders in an international environment as well as to work in a team are essential. As English is the working language of BBMRI‐ERIC, applicants must be
fluent in English. The jobholder will be asked from time to time to work outside normal working hours and occasionally to undertake national and/or international travel. We are looking for highly motivated and team-oriented people, with at least a Master’s in law, ideally a completed PhD and Post-Doc experience.
