Several endocrinology research sample collections from the Latvian National Biobank Genome Database of Latvian Population recently passed the BBMRI-ERIC Self-Assessment Survey for Genomic DNA Isolated from Venous Whole Blood. This means that, according to the self-evaluation results, these collections are compliant with the Technical Specifications of the European Committee for Standardization, CEN/TS 16835-2:2015.
The Latvian National Biobank Network, BBMRILV, considers this an important step in its efforts to evaluate its sample processing protocols and quality management system. It is crucial that not only biobanks consider their collections valuable, but that external evaluation tools such as the BBMRI-ERIC Self-Assessment Survey can confirm that studies using samples from the biobank can generate reproducible results.
