Tackling issues on in vitro diagnostics for personalised medicine, SPIDIA4P

Save the date: On the 5th March 2019, the SPIDIA4P project consortium will organise an event at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Hosted by MEP Gesine Meissner (ALDE, Germany) and MEP Lieve Wierinck (ALDE, Belgium), the meeting will focus on the ways that biobanking and standardisation can contribute to the development of safe and innovative medicines and medical devices.

The starting point of the debate will be the outcomes of two EU-funded projects that brought fundamental changes to standardisation and biobanking: SPIDIA and its successor, SPIDIA4P.

BBMRI-ERIC and the SPIDIA4P coordinator, Uwe Oelmueller from QIAGEN, will set the scene for contributions from several other speakers representing medtech, the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory bodies, and healthcare professionals – all of which are affected by and involved in the development of standards, biobanking and personalised medicine.

A panel of experts from all over Europe will address the following questions:

• What are the policy/regulatory obstacles to the development of IVDs/personalised medicine solutions?
• Can the quality of samples speed up the development and approval of new IVDs/personalised medicine solutions?
• How can SPIDIA4P and BBMRI-ERIC provide solutions to researchers and industry?
• How can medical devices/in vitro diagnostics companies gain access to the best samples available to guarantee the quick and safe development of products?
• Can standards help to decrease uncertainty for industry players, and increase safety for patients with regard to the new MD-IVD certification process?
• How can funding organisations, including the European Commission, guarantee the uptake of standards?
