Through our ELSI service, we support the biobanking community by providing services and tools that promote regulatory compliance and best practice, as well as by influencing European policy. Operating the basis of the BBMRI-ERIC federated model, we work in partnership with a network of ethical and legal experts from academia and practice across Europe, coming from our Member and Observer Countries. Our ELSI experts are at the core of any service we provide and any activities we undertake.
Key Responsibilities
We seek a Legal Officer to complement our ELSI team in order to improve our services for the biomedical sciences research infrastructures (BMS RIs). The expert will dedicate most of his/her time to the Code of Conduct initiative. He/she is also foreseen to become responsible for organizing and coordinating ethical and legal training, both online and in person. Additionally, he/she is responsible for providing guidance materials and overviews of the ethical and legal requirements relevant for the BMS RIs and incorporate them in the ELSI Knowledge Base, especially in relation to transnational sample and data transfer. Moreover, he/she will contribute to activities and tasks that may be both part of BBMRI-ERIC’s core services as well as selected EU funded projects (e.g. CORBEL, EOSClife).
Requirements
The Legal Officer is expected to have experience and profound knowledge of ethics and law in the context of biomedical research as well as familiarity with the GDPR. Previous experience in collaborative, international research projects, private and/or public research organizations is an advantage. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with colleagues and stakeholders in an international environment as well as to work in a team are essential. As English is the working language of BBMRI-ERIC, applicants must be fluent in English. The jobholder will be asked from time to time to work outside normal working hours and occasionally to undertake national and/or international travel. We are looking for highly motivated people with at least a Masters or higher, preferably in Law. Employment Terms and Conditions The Legal Officer will be reporting directly to BBMRI-ERIC’s central executive management office in Graz, Austria. The employment follows the Austrian employment law.
Salary
According to European/international standards for similar role, responsibilities and requirements of this function: 70,000.00€ as minimum annual gross salary for a position of 40 hours a week; final salary dependent on terms of qualification and experience.
